DESCRIPTION:On November 1st from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.\, the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center will present FINDING OUR VOICES: An Evening of Poetry\, Photography and an Artist Panel Discussion. \nFinding Our Voices features students and artists from Ventura County using the medium of photography and poetry to find their voice as they navigate private and public life in this exploration of self\, time and place. The event will include an opening reception and art exhibit featuring students from the Moorpark College Photography Department. Additionally\, there will be an artist panel discussion\, live music by the classic rock and jazz band Liquid Indigo from Simi Valley\, and poetry readings from three individuals from the Ventura County Arts Council’s Youth Poet Laureate and Ambassadors program. \n“Finding Our Voices: A Night of the Arts” showcases photographic artworks created by current and recent graduates of the Moorpark Community College’s Photography Department. The exhibit includes the work of twenty-three artists\, such as Brooke Andraus\, Felipe Araneda\, Gabrielle Biasi\, Kat DeGuzman\, Gerardo Delgado\, Blake Fagan\, Richard Gonzalez\, Karissa Haff\, Cameron Han\, Ryan Interrrante\, Jesus Isabeles\, Mary Maki\, Victoria McLaughlin\, Joseph Mercado\, Joseph Moche\, Rolla Parks\, Christopher Pineda\, Olivia Ricketts\, Ruth Salazar\, Madeleine Salvay\, Becky Savell\, Cristina Serrano\, and Kaela Watso. Larkin’s memoir tells the story of this stranger-than-fiction murder case\, and the influence of her reporter father’s work in her early life. Her book will be available for sale and her talk will be followed by book signing.  Free and open to the public. \n

DESCRIPTION:Conejo Mountain Funeral Home\, Memorial Park and Crematory and the Inlakech Cultural Arts Center will be hosting the 42nd Annual Celebration of EL DIA DE LOS Muertos at the Conejo Mountain Cemetery on Saturday\, November 4\, 2023 from 10 am to 6 pm. \nThe event will feature\, 50 vendors\, ofrendas-altar- art exhibitions\, lowrider car showcase\, art workshops for the community\, Prizes for the best depiction of the spirit of the dead\, and cultural performances by performing artists\, including Caliente 805\, In Stone\, and the Inlakech singers. CSUCI students will be performing a theatrical production called “El Gran Fandango de La Muerte.” \nDanza Azteca Tonantzin will lead a ceremonial procession honoring those buried at the cemetery with the public participating in the spiritual walk. Guest and relatives will be encouraged to adorn their burial plots with food\, prayer and love. \nThe event is FREE to the public.
