Hilary Baker’s “Ventura” explores the evolving urban and rural habitats of local wildlife\, while Sara Carlson’s ceramics reflect the tactile aesthetics of the region. Ray Harris’s “Ventura County Fair” captures the spirit of a cherished annual event\, and teen artist Wren Stepan’s “Queer Joy” provides an insightful glimpse into the county’s diverse identity. \nThe exhibit culminates with a mural conceived and executed by Vita Art Center Teens\, encapsulating the collective memory of Ventura County. SUMMARY:A Lovely Girl: Memoir of True Crime in Ventura
DESCRIPTION:Meet the author of A Lovely Girl: The Tragedy of Olga Duncan and the Trial of One of California’s Most Notorious Killers. Deborah Holt Larkin was ten years old when her father\, the court reporter for the Ventura County Star-Free Press\, was immersed in the trial of Olga Duncan’s killers taking place at the Ventura County Courthouse (now Ventura City Hall). Larkin’s memoir tells the story of this stranger-than-fiction murder case\, and the influence of her reporter father’s work in her early life. Her book will be available for sale and her talk will be followed by book signing.  Free and open to the public. \n

SUMMARY:El Gran Fandango de La Muerte/The Grand Fandango of the Dead
DESCRIPTION:Conejo Mountain Funeral Home\, Memorial Park and Crematory and the Inlakech Cultural Arts Center will be hosting the 42nd Annual Celebration of EL DIA DE LOS Muertos at the Conejo Mountain Cemetery on Saturday\, November 4\, 2023 from 10 am to 6 pm. \nThe event will feature\, 50 vendors\, ofrendas-altar- art exhibitions\, lowrider car showcase\, art workshops for the community\, Prizes for the best depiction of the spirit of the dead\, and cultural performances by performing artists\, including Caliente 805\, In Stone\, and the Inlakech singers. CSUCI students will be performing a theatrical production called “El Gran Fandango de La Muerte.” \nDanza Azteca Tonantzin will lead a ceremonial procession honoring those buried at the cemetery with the public participating in the spiritual walk. Guest and relatives will be encouraged to adorn their burial plots with food\, prayer and love. \nThe event is FREE to the public.
